Probota Monastery (Pobrata Monastery after its old name) was built in 1530 in the village of Probota (currently belonging to Dolhasca city, Suceava county), by the Moldavian Prince Petru Rareș.
The monastery's church is dedicated to St Nicholas (celebrated every year on December 6th).
Probota monastery functioned as a royal necropolis of Moldova (1522-1677), sheltering the tombs of the rulers Petru Rareș (1527-1538, 1541-1546), Stefan Rareș (1551-1552), Lady Elena Rareș and other members of Moldova's ruling family.
