Bears' Cave (Pestera Ursilor)

An interesting cave is Ursilor Cave ("Bears' Cave", Apuseni Mts) - with its remarkable Gallery of the Bears, containing a lot of well preserved parts of skeletons of ancient cave bears (a species which disappeared 15.000 years ago); hosting the Emil Racovita Gallery (founder of the first Speleological Institute in the world) and the Gallery of Candles (the most impressive gallery, filled with very large stalagmites and stalactites, candle-like).

Please note: a stalactite has an average growth of 8-15 mm per century !
